We’re constantly delighted by the heartwarming reviews we receive from Wanggulay visitors. Here’s a sample. All reviews on this page were left by real reviewers, either through Homeaway, Stayz or this website.

This house is an absolute stunner. From the moment we walked in, our group felt at home and at ease. Looking out into the treetops from the deck was just gorgeous. We especially loved the beautiful butterflies and at night the noises from the rainforest were superb.

The location is an easy ten minutes from the airport or fifteen from the centre of Cairns. The location also meant Port Douglas and Palm Cove were close too, so exploring all three towns was easy.

Thank you to the owners for maintaining a beautiful property. We had no complaints whatsoever; this was simply the perfect stay.

The property is a great place to kick back and relax while enjoying the rainforest surroundings but with so much to do less than and hour away you can decide to get out and explore or just make the most of the comfortable luxury that is Wanggulay and spend time on the verandas with a book and nothing but time.

We stayed for a week at the start of Jan and loved it! On the second day we invited family to come back with us next year!
The house is spacious, relaxing, stunning and fully equipt.
The pool is amazing and even has hydro bubbles for a light spa feel if wanted. We were in it every day without fail, we had wonderful weather so didnt need to use the heater function but was nice to know it was there.
Each room has air con for comfort and the beds and pillows are simply divine!.
Gary met us at the property and made some excellent suggestions on what to do during our stay.

It was a lovely experience staying at Wanggulay. The booking process was seamless, we were all well informed throughout the process. Your responses were always fast and helpful. The actual place was beautiful. The amenities and extras (aircon, heated pool, juicer and foxtel) were very appreciated. Everything about the place was brilliant, even the location! A massive thank you from all of us. :)

What a beautiful experience, we didn’t want to leave!! The house and gardens were very well appointed and Brett and staff were fantastic, with the best local knowledge. Stony Creek was gorgeous and a must visit. Very relaxing, luxurious stay that we can thoroughly recommend to others.

The house was secluded within the rainforest but was only 10-20 minutes away from all the main Cairns attractions. The house was fitted out with everything that our family could have wished for. The two large decks, daybeds and heated pool were family favourites. We’ll be back.

We stayed at Wanggulay for 3 nights in August 2012, and wished it could have been longer. In our group were 4 adults and two children (10 and 8 yrs), and we could have easily fit a total of 10, as the website suggests.

The location of this property is ideal – within a 15-minute drive of Cairns, but far enough away to be quiet and rural. The scenery is wonderful – nestled in a forest, at the top of a river gorge. Even during the Aussie “winter”, there was abundant bird and animal life.

The house itself is the essence of elegance and luxury, both inside and out. As much as the nearby attractions beckon (Great Barrier Reef; SkyTrain; Tjapukaii aborrginal centre), the place is so nice that you just want to hang out and relax there!

We had various conversations (on the phone and in person) with Gary, the property manager, and he was always very gracious, friendly, and accommodating.

In brief, we would highly recommend this property to anyone staying in the Cairns area. It is truly a unique and special place.

(One note – they do not take credit cards, so be prepared with cash or money order.)

Wanggulay was the perfect place to relax and recharge. A beautiful house of wood and Balinese furnishings, wide verandahs and modern amenities, nestled in the rainforest on the Barron River. Bush walks, great views and swimming holes are walking distance from the house. Further afield, we went to markets, beaches, galleries and cafes although it’s hard to leave the daybed and spa pool back at the house. I would highly recommend Wanggulay for family gatherings, group get-aways and luxury retreats.

Had an absolutely fantastic getaway with 2 other couples for 7 nights in an amazing holiday house with all the luxuries one would expect from this magnificent property. It is as advertised, surrounded by rainforest and tranquil settings. Quite peacful nights spent sitting outdoors relaxing with friends around the pool eating freshly caught Coral Trout cooked on the the BBQ, drinking a cold beer. What more could one ask for. Thank you Wanggulay. A trully magnificent tropical adventure. Highly recommended. Ben, Milda & Friends.

Wanggulay is ideally located in rain forest with easy access to walking trails of varying grades, through bushland, nearby hills, and beside mountain creeks, with spectacular views of the surrounding country. Nearby recreation areas include the ocean beaches of Trinity Bay, fishing, golfing, tennis, and access to the coral of the Great Barrier Reef. The stunning coastal drive along the Captain Cook Highway through the Wet tropics World Heritage area, to Port Douglas and Mossman leads to Cape Tibulation and the Daintree National Park. There is easy driving up to the agricultural area of the atherton Tableland, with wonderful views of the countryside.

The attention to detail in this luxury house is amazing. While it rained a lot while we were there, it was a perfect chance for us to hear the road of the river running through the bottom of the property. the house feels like its suspended among treetops and the deck area is ample to still get protection from the rain while enjoying the surrounds. Loved it

Wanggulay is a peaceful, relaxing getaway that enables you to be close to everything while remainng close to nature. One could spend the whole day on one of the lovely decks just looking at and listening to birds. The kids loved it, too.

Brett and Belinda were friendly, helpful and accomodating. We would love to stay there again; it was a treat!
